After Death…
I walked into a strange room in my own house which was full of light. It had sunlight coming in from a big window. The entire room seemed to be in white, right from the curtains to the bed-sheet, the walls, everything. In the middle of the room, there was a bed. I could see my father in law sitting in the middle of the room, surrounded by other members of my family. My wife, Monica and my sister in law, Mohita sat right next to him. Both of them seemed so happy in his company. Others in the room included my parents, Mohita’s father in law, my 5 year old niece and my wife’s brother’s spouse. There were two strangers in the room as well who seemed to be well acquainted with my father in law and they stood in one corner of the room smiling.
I looked at the strangers and said Namaste. They smiled back and nodded in return. I took no further time and sat right next to my father in law and held his hand, similar to the time when I used to hold his hand when he was dying in the hospital. He grasped my hand firmly. I could feel the strength in his hold. He smiled back at me with full radiance. While, everybody in the room was silent, it was only me and my father in law, whom I referred to as Papa, began to speak to one another.
“How are you Papa?”
“I am very good beta.”
“We all miss you.”
“I know and that is why I have come back to communicate with you and this is the only way to communicate. I will communicate with others as well because it is time to move on, live life, work and know that I am doing very good and am very happy, wherever I am.”
“Where are you Papa? What happens when you…..you know? After…..”
“There is a river between two lands. Nobody can cross that river but people on both sides can clearly see each other. On one side of the river, there is so much happiness and peace but on the other side, things are not so good. It doesn’t seem to be very peaceful.”
“I hope you are on the good side of the river Papa?”
“I am. I am on the good side of the river.” he said briefly in his own trademark manner.
“I want to ask you if there’s anything I can do for your happiness. You know I would try to do what I can.”
“Yes. I want you to help Monica with my school. She can’t do it on her own. I want the school to grow and I want the quality to improve. You have seen the world; you know how modern things work. I want you to do something.”
I took me time to answer this question. To be honest, I haven’t always been a man of my words and I am often late and haven’t met many personal commitments in life, just like many people in this world who get torn away from their personal life owing to profession and work. This commitment, I wanted to make seriously, after fully understanding that I have the necessary means to be able to do that.
“I will do whatever I can.”
“You know I am not going to meet Mummy. It will be very difficult for her.”
“I understand. Are we going to see you again?”
“Maybe for sometime but now I feel like having something sweet to eat.” Then, referring to the two strangers he said, “These people want to eat something sweet as well.”

I don’t know what happens after that. All I see is that I am standing in front of a sweet shop, alone. I walk inside the shop and ask the vendor, “Do you have some good sweets?”
“All our sweets are good. What do you want?”
I just think for a moment and then I realize that I am alone. I politely tell the vendor that I will come back and I don’t know what I want right now.

My entire surroundings change once again in less than a moment and as I walk out of the sweet shop, I see myself walking inside a school. I see children, all wearing neat and tidy uniforms. Major portion of that school uniform was in bottle green. The entire school seemed to have a theme of green.
I walked near a water purifier which itself was slightly teal in color or maybe pantone. What I really noticed was that this water purifier was very sophisticated, maybe even futuristic. I immediately felt the need to drink from the water purifier. Maybe looking at such a sophisticated water dispenser made me feel thirsty.
I thought maybe I will seem stupid before the children if I use my bare hands to drink water from the dispenser. I looked around. No child in the school had greeted me. Strangely, they did not even acknowledge my presence. They just kept doing what they were doing as if I did not exist. I thought, it is ok, nobody seems to know me here or maybe they just can’t see me. I tried to drink from the water cooler…

I woke up thinking about my father in law. It was strange that I had him in my dream. I very rarely see dreams and when I do, I do not remember them. I remember small details about this dream that I saw. Also what is important to mote here is that I had not thought much about Papa during the past 2-3 days.
I woke my wife up and asked “Did you have any dream?”
“No. I did not. Why do you ask?”
“Because I had a strange dream and I thought you may have had something similar as well.”
“No. I did not have a dream but I could not sleep. I was having trouble sleeping the whole night. What was the dream that you saw? Tell me.”
